IWAKI, Fukushima — An art project that will hold an event in the Hamadori coastal area of Fukushima Prefecture next August is accepting submissions of artworks from people inside and outside the prefecture through its website.
福島県いわき市沿岸部の浜通りで来年８月に開催されるアートプロジェクトが、ウェブサイトで県内外から作品を募集している。
The project, Happy Island Hamadoori Arts 2026, aims to share information about the current situation in the coastal area to mark the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and revitalize the local communities in the area through art.
「ハッピーアイランド浜通りアーツ2026」は、東日本大震災から15年を迎えるにあたり、沿岸部の現状を伝え、アートを通して地域コミュニティの活性化を図るプロジェクト。
The executive committee of the project is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in the event.
プロジェクト実行委員会は、できるだけ多くの人々のイベント参加を呼びかけている。
At a press conference held in Iwaki in the prefecture on Oct. 1, Sakuji Yoshimura, an archaeologist of ancient Egyptian civilization and president of Higashi Nippon International University, emphatically said: “Being a project in which ordinary residents can participate in is important. I want as many people as possible to join.” Yoshimura is head of the project’s executive committee.
福島県いわき市で10月1日に開かれた記者会見で、古代エジプト文明の考古学者で東日本国際大学の吉村作治学長は「一般の住民が参加できるプロジェクトであることが重要だ。できるだけ多くの人に参加してもらいたい」と力を込めた。吉村氏はプロジェクト実行委員長を務めている。
Manabu Yoshida, vice head of the project’s executive committee and representative director of Hamadoori 13, a regional collaboration organization of young business owners in the prefecture, said, “I want to combine the arts and the strength of the local communities for the event.”
プロジェクト実行委員会副委員長で、県内の若手経営者らによる地域連携組織「浜通り１３」代表理事の吉田学さんは「芸術と地域の力を融合させたイベントにしたい」と話した。
The committee expects 20,000 people to take part in the event.The project involves creating four artworks with the help of local residents.
委員会は、このイベントに2万人が参加すると見込む。プロジェクトでは、地元住民の協力を得て四つのアート作品を制作する。
These include Hamadoori Angel, a digital feather art piece designed by Tatsuya Ishii, vocalist of pop music band Kome Kome Club and director of the project. The feather art piece will be completed by pasting feathers designed by event participants. There will also be a Nomaoi Hata flag mosaic art piece created by piecing together works collected by inviting members of the public to participate.
この中には、ポップ音楽グループ「米米CLUB」のボーカルで、プロジェクトのディレクターでもある石井竜也さんがデザインしたデジタル羽根アート「浜通りエンジェル」が含まれる。デジタル羽根アートは、イベント参加者がデザインした羽根を貼り付けて完成させる。また、一般の参加者から寄せられた作品を繋ぎ合わせて制作するモザイクアートの「野馬追旗」もある。
The four collaborative works will be exhibited at Alios, a performing arts center in Iwaki in the prefecture, starting on Aug. 16 next year. The artworks will also be exhibited in other municipalities such as Okuma and Soma in the prefecture.
共同制作の４作品は、来年8月16日から、いわき市の舞台芸術センター「アリオス」で展示される。また、大熊町や相馬市など県内の他市町村でも展示される予定だ。
To participate in the production of these artworks, applicants must purchase a basic membership for ¥500 on the website and submit their artwork online.
これらのアート作品の制作に参加するには、ウェブサイトで基本会員費500円を購入した上で、作品をオンラインで提出する必要がある。
Applications will be accepted through March 11, 2026.
